I just got done with my attempt at having a dualboot system (win98se and winXP). I have done this before with win98se and win2k (both advanced server, and professional). Both are installed on the C drive. I installed 98 first, then renamed the program files directory, and installed xp. Win98 was installed to the c:\windows dir and winXP is sitting in the C:\winxp folder. However, I can't figure out a way to get into 98. There is no option when booting, and when i go to the advanced startup options, 98 isn't listed. Is there a line or two i could add to my boot.ini file to get 98 to show up? Or...any other suggestions would be nice.

Thanks in advance

I think you're nuts for not just bitting the bullet and installing to a separate partition, but in any case here's a possible solution I found after searching Google: Computing.Net message

Hi Diane
With XP you don't need to repartion , install XP through windows 98 , choose full install (NEW install ) when asked which directory to install , make one up like "windows2" . when install finished you can edit the boot.ini file through system properties in xp under advanced tab , system startup settings .. then click edit . this is what the file should look like
[boot loader]
timeout=5
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS2
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS2="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect
C:\="Microsoft Windows 98"
ADD the win 98 section ....
Then you will have oportunity to choose between 98 or XP every time you start your PC

hey....thanks for the info....i'm gonna have to copy that and save it, cause i could not find that ANYWHERE else on the net. I went ahead and just put XP on a seperate computer with 98/2000 dualbooting on my other computer. thanks again though, cause many told me that it could not be done at all.
