Short and sweet: How are the Grado SR-80s? I heard nothing but good about them, but as always, I'm checking with Anandtech 🙂 These will be used for gaming, btw. It's about time I get some high-quality 'phones, sick and tired of the low-quality crap commonly associated with computers.

Not sure about that model, but one very consistent thing i've heard about grado headphones is that they are annoying to wear for extended periods of time...

All headphones suck because they can not do stereo unless you use a special processor or binaural recording.
Thanks for the helpful comment

Listen to these binaural recording WITH HEADPHONES and you will hear stereo.http://www.krisbee.com/Field%20Recording.html

Thats the exact reason I take my home theater setup with me on the plane, to the mall and also to the beach when I go. Its kinda a pain to haul all the gear and the 6 foot speakers but at least I get stereo.

I am not trying to be a pain in the ass.
I happen to know details that most folks don't know, and this is exactly the sort of information I am looking for when I post a question here.

I don't care that it's not "true stereo". I was just looking for opinions on the SR-80s.

Few things...

The SR-80s are great headphones, but there are some shortcomings, especially when used for gaming:

1. They are uncomfortable to wear for extended periods of time. End up adjusting them a lot, moving them around, taking them off, etc.
2. They are limited to the abilities of your motherboard/sound card. There's lots of sound degradation in some systems, in my experience.
3. At least for the games I play, it doens't have very high-quality sound anyway, so the benefits are kind of lost when using Grados.

Anyway, they're excellent headphones, but not that great for gaming.

There you go.

It is not even not "true" stereo, which implies some sort of essoteric detail; it is fundamental.
It is plainly and simply not stereo at all nor even close.
You might as well listen to mono

They are VERY uncompfortable, I gave them away after a month, i was sick of the throbbing on my ears. They hurt like hell. Sound isnt too bad IMO though.

I really don't care. As said above, I can't lug a stereo around with me.
