need some advice

right i have a xp2000 with a 12.5x133 set up

i want to overclock to get some extra speed out of UT

this is not a thoroughbred core....its a palomino

my mobo a KT333 ultra 2 (MSI) will let me change voltages up to about 1.8v and multiplier to 15

i have a pretty meaty volcano 9 with ducting mod and smart fan.

advise me on whats best to do

or is jus altering FSB safer?

Simply install the MSI overclocking Utility (I forget what it is called for KT3Utlra 2, and let it automatically overclock for you, then when the CPu crashes adjust to the closest lowest value of FSB and test it for stability. Since your cpu is a palomino it is locked and you cannot adjust the multiplier unless you unlock it. Therefore increasing the front side bus is your best option.

Now since KT3ultra 2 has potential to go to 166FSB and still retain the 33/66 PCI/AGP lock, your best bet is to either get 166x12.5 = 2075 or increase it to some speed above 133 that does not increase the PCI above 38 and AGP above 72 (Download SiSoftware Sandra 2004 to check for that)

The overclocking utility in windows for Kt3Ultra 2 works better than the BIOS adjustments for some reason or thats what i remember when I used to have your board.

Good luck. My Athlon 1600+ 1400mhz (10.5 x 133) did 152FSB on default voltage when using the utility without Vcore adjustments on a palomino core and woulndt move past 138FSB in the bios no matter the settings. Let me know if you get anything going.

you have about a 3% chance of hitting 2 Ghz with a Palomino. If you want to overclock, my advice to sell your CPU and get any Thoroughbred core you can find for $50.
