At present, I have 3 desktop systems. The first is my main desktop, which sports an X2 4200 and an MSI K9N SLI main board. The other two are SFF machines from Dell and Compaq which are used to crunch S@H.

Before Saturday, I'll be rebuilding my main desktop. The results of this upgrade will leave me with an X2 4200, the MSI mobo, and a 450w Fortron PSU left over.

My original plan was to sell these parts on eBay. However, I had a thought last night. Since the Compaq SFF machine sports the single channel DDR 845 chipset and runs slow as molasses; if I were to pull its HDD, DVD, and FX5500 video card out, the only things I would need to assemble a working machine would be an ATX case and some DDR2 RAM. I could get both of these for under 100 USD easily.

This would leave me with an X2 4200 and an E6600 machine, both of which will churn out ample S@H WUs. The Dell SFF machine sports a Celeron 2.4Ghz, but uses the dual channel DDR 865 chipset. I could remove the 2.53Ghz P4 from the husk of the Compaq and put it in there as well.

This would give me a serious bump in my S@H processing power.

What do you guys think?
