I applied for a job in my same department, a network analyst position...which I have the schooling but no experience for. I have worked in the department for almost 2 years and have a good feel for how things run...

So I applied for the job, along with 6 others....I was the last to go. Everything seemed to go good, the people who interviewed me were my co-workers so they understood me and the whole experience thing. The interview went well I thought...and prior to the interview the main boss pulled me aside and explained a bunch of stuff for me in regards to how things were going to work in the interview....a good sign I though (almost like insider info).

Anyways...fast forward a 3 weeks later, didn't hear anything so I called HR and asked for an update...no decision has been made...

Called a 2 weeks ago and talked to the HR lady about again if a decision was made, she said they were checking references on someone and it looked like they were going in that direction (i.e. bascially I wasn't going to get the job).

I was cool with that, a little pissed but none the less what could I do. SO I find out this week that they didn't hire that person and aren't planning on it...but I still have not heard eitherway if I am totally out or am still in consideration.

I am dying not knowing and my take is that the boss wants someone one with experience( which I don't totally have on the network side) and is still looking.

So my question to you all is, do I just sit and wait to figure out what the hell is going on

OR

Do I try to talk to the director who is always busy and ask him to break it down for me and tell me if I have been excluded or where I stand ???

I don't want to over step my bounds but for the love of jahova I can't stand not knowing my position in this whole process....

Any advice would be appreciated...

Thanks...

Write or call them and ask if they have any follow up questions for you and if they do give them your contact information again.

I'd leave it alone. If they really were considering you for this position, the decision would have been made a long time ago.

Agreed. Sorry, you didn't get the job yet, if you do, it won't be because you asked.

That is what i was thinking totally...and I came to that realization awhile ago.

The part that is irritating to me is that nothing has been communicated to me though...not by HR and not by the boss of the department...who is someone I speak with at least once a day...

I would love the job mostly for the experience...it would be a great opportunity.

My thought (and you can tell me what you think) is they haven't found anyone to fill the postion and for I haven't been informed yet as they could be keeping me as saftey candidate.

So that if they exhaust their search and have no one else, THEN they would offer it to me.

Which would be humiliating to say the least but you have to get your start somewhere and I would be willing to swallow the pride in order to get the experience.

how does that theory sound ?

Sounds like you were either a flat out no or they're keeping you as a backup candidate. Either way, you deserve a status update. I would recommend contacting the HR person (who is going to be more used to dealing with this situation than the boss) and pleasantly asking him/her for a status update.

Well I did ask a co-worker who is in that department and he basically told me what you had said...of the people who they interviewed none have had a 4 year degree which is what they are looking for and I have the 4 year degree. They are looking for someone who needs little or no training...which I would.

the part that is pretty lame I found out that a strike against me is the boss man is worried that if I did get the job that some of the current jobs I do now would follow me to the new position since no one else can apparently do them...which is a stereotype against me lol...

Apparently they are still undecided and still seeking candidates...so that is all I needed to know and will most likely sit and wait to hear anything concrete....I had no idea the process could take so long....
