Looking for some recommendations---my dad's got an older computer w/ a Pentium 200(socket 7). What would be a good choice for an upgrade? I know nothing about the MB---I couldn't find anything on it to give me any indication what brand it is--only that it's a socket 7.

the chipset may handle a K6-2/500. the fsb may go to 75 or 83 and the 2x multiplier may be recognized as 6x. this i have gleaned off of other questions on the forums. look at the motherboard and find what brand and model it is. see if the website offers info as to chipset, fsb settings and voltage settings.

The best is what Mountain said.
I think that the motherboard has to support it though. It might be the BIOS...not sure.

Try here to find out what motherboard you have.

Try to find out the mobo manufacturer, then determine the chipset on it, then determine the voltage settings it supports, then determine the clock multipliers it supports, then determine the fsb it supports. After that it will be easier to determine what socket 7 processors will work.
