Here it comes again :).

I'm looking to buy a good 21" or 22" monitor. For CAD, 3D and graphic applications such as photoshop, oh Yes!!! heh and a lot of web surfing too :). If the monitor is really good and worths it I'm willing to spend a thousand on it.

Originally I wanted to buy Viewsonic PF815 but this model has been discontinued and replaced with P220f. P220f costs less but it's features are not as good as PF815's and no review of it can be found anywhere on the internet.

Now I don't know which monitor I should get. I'm thinking about iiyama Vision MAster Pro510. Any advice?

Thank you in advance :)

I'd get a Sony G500. I think they're worth the premium, but that's just my opinion.

I have the Vision Master pro510 and its one nice monitor. It has extremely sharp and viberant colors, with the only flaws being a very slight redish tint on the left side of the screen, and a little longer glowing trail behind fast moving bright objects then I like (but i've gotten used to it so I rarely notice it anymore). But if you don't mind those to small problems (which all monitors have to some degree) then I would highly reccomend it.

The problem described above are exclusively problems with that particular monitor, dont expect every Iiyama having red tints and ghosting problems.

I go with Comp10, Vision Master 510. I have no complaints about this monitor whatsoever. Vibrant colors super, sharp text high res at good refresh rates. People are always amazed by this monitor not only by its size but the clarity of the monitor itself. I got mine wholesale (I work for reseller) and got mine for $900 NIB. Better than Sony crap. The best they have which would equal almost on specs is $1800. This is perfectly flat and has less distortion than the Trinitrons. Only thing that I dislike but this is a problem with all Naturalflat monitors is there is an ever so slight bow of the image on the botton.

I will just add for Comp10 sake, is that the whole left side. I don't have that problem, but sometimes the corners get off color but then in the monitor adjustment menus, you can correct that. It is the menu with the four monitors and with different corners highlighted.

Or wait, is that the line on the side of the monitor that sometimes appears. You have to do that horizontal color adjustment. That is a problem that I have too. When the red is gone, the monitor is unclear, but when the monitor is pristine, then there is a small red line at the very left hand extreme and a slight blue line at the very right extreme of the whole monitor image. It used to annoy me but it isn't that big of a deal for me, because the picture is extremely good.

To add to my previous post:
The thing with these big monitors is at least when they are new you have to keep on adjusting them. I have had this monitor for something like a year now but I remember for the first two or three months everytime I would turn on the monitor I would have to adjust something. But now I rarely have to change anything.

I hope that helps you though.

<<Why not get the p220f anyway?>>

Because there is a better monitor out there, for less. The Samsung SyncMaster 1200NF, $820 shipped.

I would have to second LXi's mention of the 1200NF. I love my Samsung monitors (currently 900NF) and was impressed with the 1200NF when I had the opportunity to use one.

Sony is truly the one and only monitor you should consider if you can't afford it wait till you can.

I would sooner buy one of the other monitor companies that use the Sony Trinitron tube(KDS) than buy an actual Sony. I would recommend, like LXi, one of the monitors that use the Diamondtron tubes-like the Samsung LXi mentioned.

I agree with tboo, there are many excellent alternatives to Sony, no need to make your life a miserable by saving up for Sony.

Keep it coming guys.
I really appriciate all the input here.
I thank all of you for taking your time and trying to help me to decide.

I can't just buy P220F, I could not find any reviews nor any user opinions. But thanks Ulysses for the info.

About Samsung SyncMaster 1200NF, sounds interesting but I couldn't find much of information on it. Also, another thing... Since I will be working a lot with Cad and 3d, it's probably better if I go with professional series which are especially designed for that type of work? What do you think?

The problems you're telling me about are scaring me :Q heh

I'm still doing my research and all of you are really helping me :) THANKS A LOT

Damn !! What happened: I was going to correct LXi about the 1200NF being cheaper than the P220F but suddenly the price has changed for the Viewsonic, it was $699 about 2 weeks ago !! Now its $840, ouch that sucks :(

Check out the mistubishi 2040u and 2060u. The 2040u may be cheap now that the 2060 is out or comming out. Also, consider the KDS av-21tf

id3dwiz: Sorry for my stupid response above - I confused the two models you mentioned. The point I meant to make was that you can still find the discontinued PF815 on the web, if that is the one you like. I found vendors and prices for it here at ClickTheButton, as listed below.

I agree that the Samsung's seem to get very good reviews.

Personally, I prefer to buy monitors at a local store, since monitors are often very individual in their performance, and returns are easier with a local vendor. This may not be practical for everyone, and often choices for large monitors may be more limited locally. If you buy a monitor on the web, be sure to understand the vendors return & exchange policies.

BigLance:

Ease off. Even if the ViewSonic is cheaper, the Samsung would still be a better buy.

i know i'm going to get flamed for this, but if i were you I'd buy a 21" from a reputable dealer on Egay, someone who's been their a long time and has good feedback, since if you don't get what they claim then they have a lot to lose from negative feedback, where as if a internet site screws you over what can you do about it?

Great example: I got a damaged 21" off egay for $180. When the monitor arrived the plastic exterior was severely cracked, far more than what the seller said it would be, however the picture was sharp and clear, even at 1600x1200. I took some pics with a digital cam and mailed them to the seller and asked him what he was going to do about this, that his description did clearly describe the amount of damage. He knocked half off the price! Now i have a monitor that looks crappy but a with a great picture, which is the important part.

Hi again :)

Ulysses, thanks for the info again. I've tried doing and and all the places I called said they don't have it(pf815). The price search engine you gave me showed another store I didn't check with so I might do that sometime this week.

I'm also considering 1200NF (thanks for recommending it), it sounds very interesting. But I have doubts about weather it will suit my CAD and 3D modeling needs. As you know some monitors are best for text, some are best for graphics, and some are best for CAD. That is why I'm also looking at samsung's professional line (model 1100 plus) which is described as a CAD monitor.

The "mistubishi 2040u" I've read a lot of comments about this monitor and a lot of people weren't happy with it, because it came with defects. So I don't think I want to get this one.

Sony seems too expensive to me.

iiyama Vision MAster Pro510, still considering it but looking for other alternatives.

Thank you LXi, Jumpem, Comp10, cvlegion, Ulysses, Burn, deaddog, BigLance, nippyjun and 1greatguy.

Keep it coming :)

I think the Samsung is perfect for CAD, it has the same tube as the Mistubishi and ViewSonic, the DiamondTron NF. If ViewSonic says their PF815 is designed for CAD, then I have no doubt that the Samsung can serve the same purpose.

I'll throw my 2cents worth in here:) I have been using a 21" Hitachi Super Scan 813 for several months, and have been happy as hell with it.

What do you mean by assimilated? They redesigned their web page and raised the price, I heard that they pulled free shipping too. That sucks.
