Need Software/hardware that schedules shutdown if server/room overheats.

Its warm here in FL -- If the AC dies on us during midnight, we could fry our servers.
Anyone have any experience with scheduling a windows shutdown in the event that, for example, the room gets to 90*F?
We use a temperature probe from Ravica that works to tell temp and humidity but we need to monitor our email to know when something is wrong.

Something that isn't $$$$ would be great!
Thanks!

The only solution that I'm familiar with is that APC makes some "NetBotz" appliances that do environmental monitoring. I belive they integrate with APC UPS's to shutdown servers when they hit a High/Low Temp threshold.

Most Tier 1 servers have this circuitry anyway, and will shut themselves off in the event of a temperature spike. You can use SNMP monitoring to determine when that happens. Or, I believe HP's iLO can be configured to send email alerts.

Great ideas

I know that the servers won't shutdown @ 90*F Ambient Temp but I'm being ordered to do this :p

I'm going to look into the dell IT assistant -- Thanks!

I'm assuming you mean if the power goes out? Doesn't the AC start back up automatically when power is restored? If not, might be better to look for a new AC system that does.

A/C units can and do fail with the power on...

My most recent failure of my main AC unit was caused by a bug crawling in to the contactor for the compressor. Also had the compressor replaced about 4 weeks ago due to leaking oil that forced me on to the backups which don't keep the room nearly as cool as the main one does.

Power didn't go out either of those times.

Some places that run servers have battery backup and generators for the servers. Those same generators though rarely power the AC.

Isn't that just a hard power off though? I haven't looked at that side too much but I'd rather have something central that can alert, initiate shutdowns, etc.
