Need server ping

RossMAN

Grand Nagus
You DO NOT need a headset or microphone.

1) You need Ventrilo client which is available from Ventrilo.com or here's a direct link.
If you already have Ventrilo installed, go to step 2.

2) Visit HurricaneHost.com and click on all of the following cities in the middle left
  • Atlanta, Georgia
  • Chicago, Illinois
  • Dallas, Texas
3) After you click a city it will launch Ventrilo, wait 5 seconds and you will see PING: xx in the top center.
Make note of the city and ping, exit the Ventrilo application and select the next city.

Please note TypeFrag requires IE or Opera, sorry FireFox users.

4) Please reply with your city/state zip, and the ping times for all 3 cities.

5) Which Ventrilo host offers the best servers, network connecticity and support?

TypeFrag.com or HurricaneHost.com

Thanks!

Dallas 19 (40 minutes away by car)
Chicago 42
Atlanta 35

Typefrag would not bring up vent.

Here are my test results from the San Antonio, TX area:

Hurricane
Atlanta - 43
Chicago - 54
Dallas - 40

Typefrag (You have to use IE or Opera for the links to automatically launch the test)
Atlanta - 32
Chicago - 63
Dallas - 16

Given my great ping to the Dallas server for typefrag, that would have to be the way I would go. Atlanta would serve as my backup.

Great Idea for a test Ross.

Forgive my tardiness. Only took me three weeks to ACTUALLY respond to this thread.

Since I had a few minutes, I tested all servers (you know me and efficiency). Also, I tested the three mentioned in the original post multiple times in addition to observing the average range:

Hurricane Host
  • Ashburn: 12 - 18
  • Atlanta: 35 - 41
  • Chicago: 56 - 60
  • Dallas: 92 - 97
  • Los Angeles: 9 - 13
  • New York: 5 - 19
  • San Jose: 97 - 101
  • Seattle: 98 - 99
  • Frankfurt: 85 - 88
  • London: 21 - 26
  • Montreal: 20 - 27
TypeFrag
  • Atlanta: 15 - 19
  • Chicago: 16 - 60
  • Dallas: 62 - 65
  • London: 78 - 90 (appears to be an open free server, perhaps?)
  • Miami: Did Not Connect
  • Montreal: 15 - 18
  • New York: 0 - 16 (w00t! 0!)
  • San Francisco: 109 - 112
  • Seattle: 78 - 79
  • Washington, D.C.: 15 - 17
Between the two providers, appears the best average pings in Canada (I had to throw out my New York results, of course). Perhaps this is your long awaited opportunity to invade, Ross? We already know who the Prime Minister is, after all.

However, I have used typefrag Ventrilo servers before and never had any latency issues. For me either is fine, though I lean towards TypeFrag because of prior experience.

When I'm not in school I'm at home - right next to Portland, OR 😉 Dallas would pretty much be central.
