M typing this from my crappy PC. Let me tell you the whole story. I got my new PC a few months ago, specs are:

AMD 3500+90nm
A8V Deluxe
1gig corsair 3200 DDR400 cl2 ram
6800GT 256mb PNY
420w PSU
160gb hard drive

I started these problems when trying to play a game I would get a random reboot or crash so I figured PSU problem. I kept getting these crashing and eventually I couldnt even turn my PC on. But the weird thing was, I kept getting overclocknig failed! messages, weven though i havent oc'ed anything on my new rig. I was given 2 options at the overclocking failed message ;
F1 carry on with these settings
F2 revert to original settings
I pressed F2 hoping problem was fixed. Nope, still got crashes where the screen would just turn into small bklocks of differant colours depending on when it crashed. Eventually my GFX cfard gave in, and stopped giving signal to my monitor.
So I got my GFX card replaced under warranty and got it bk a few days ago. All was fine until yesterday when i started getting problems again. Crash/Restart problems. The thing is when it restarts, the PC restarts but the monitor jsut completely shuts off and I have to emergency button to do anything.
So my GFX card stopped giving signal again (my new one) for like 5 mins then it started giving signals again. Again I got the overclocking message I got before and again I choose F2 yet nothing changed. The PC has got to the point where I cant turn it on without it crashing so early, besides access BIOS. Everythimh is running at stock speeds and I checked all fans are working. I dont understand if this is a GFX/monitor problem/PSU problems or CPU overheating problem, and dont know how to fix it 🙁

When I say it restarts I actually mean the monitor switches off but the PC is still running, but I cant do anything :/

Try adjusting the VDIMM setting to 2.7 or 2.8V.
Those Asus boards tend to undervolt the DIMMs.

Have you tried running Memtest86?
 
I dont know how to change the VDIMM settings and I cant run memtest86 because the PC tends to crash/switch off before I can even get to my account 🙁
Do I change the VDIMM settings in BIOS?
 
yes. that overclocking failed message is 8ecause of ram. in the 8ios go to advanced>system frequency/voltage configuration> and vdimm will 8e there. set it at 2.8. also go to advanced>cpu config>memory config> and make sure everything is on auto.

download memtest86 off the internet. it is a 8oota8le floppy or cd. just set the 8IOS 8oot order to 8e from cd or floppy first. run it for a few hours and tell us if you get any errors.
 
The memory in my Asus board went bad recently. It kept rebooting on me within 2 - 3 minutes of booting up. It was a pentium board and rd-ram though.
 
I went to BIOS but under system freuency I only had an overclocking option which was set to auto, when i set it to manual more options came up but no VDIMM was there, I had VDDR tho which I set to 2.6 but it made no sifferance I was still getting restarts/crashes. Sometimes even when im setting the BIOS I would get the crsh or monitor off restart. I really have no idea what to do. If I try to run memtest86 it will probably crash/restart during the test anyway. Should I try set the VDDR to 2.7 and 2.8?
 
That PS is not a good one and could be the problem.
But you need to eliminate ram as a problem first. Use a memory divider setting (133,166)to run memory at less than the rated speed, and loosen your timings to CAS 2.5 or 3 and see if it runs stable and can pass memtest. If not, test each stick individually to see if you have 1 bad stick. If you can't get stable with these methods then I would focus on the power supply
 
OMG, i just looked at the specs on that Raidmax 420Watt.....it only has 13A on the 12 volt!! What a piece of sh....

You cannot run a 6800GT video card on that junky power supply.
I'm actually surprised your system has been as stable as kinda is.

Get a good power supply 🙂
 
I would up the VDDR to 2.8v. But yeah, you don't want to keep that generic POS raidmax PSU..a quality 350w psu is a lot better than a genric 400w+ PSU.
 
I'm new to the forums just to look at this thread lol. So DemonEdge, did you get a new psu? Was that your problem? The reason i'm asking is b/c a while back a company screwed me over and sent me the wrong psu, a Raidmax 420watt psu, and sold it to me for over half its price off. I was ignorant then. It worked fine for a year until i got a 6800GT and it worked fine for the first 2 months. Now I am losing a signal to my monitor and just recently the card went to sh!*. I got motherboard beep error for video card problem. I sent my card back RMA and am purchasing a new psu. Not sure what to get....looking at Enermax 485W Noisetaker. It has dual 12V rails, 18A each. I also looked at Aspire Chameleon 550W w/ 34A 12V rail. The Aspire has mixed reviews everywhere i look.
