Need Serial Number on ASUS P5Q SE PLUS

I ordered an Open Box ASUS P5Q SE Plus for a build I'm doing for a buddy. I called ASUS to get an I/O Shield mailed to me but they need a serial number off the back of the motherboard or the motherboard box which haven't shipped yet. I'd really like to get this build done for my buddy this weekend. Anyone have that serial number off their motherboard box or their motherboard? I believe they are not unique to each motherboard but to each model. Thanks.

Asus serial numbers are unique to each mb regardless of model.

There is a 13.74% possibility that the Open Box item comes with the I/O shield. Okay, I made that up. However, anecdotal evidence suggests that there is a slim chance it already will come with one.

If it does not, well then, that's the chance you take with Open Box.

BTW another chance is that the board will have something wrong with it. For example, on the system I'm typing this post with, I'm using an Open Box motherboard. It had onboard sound problems. No, not the typical "OMG onboard suxxors and I can't wean myself from Soundblaster teats." The microphone input is completely trashed and periodically it will think that I just plugged something new into a port.

If this kind of stuff (missing parts, possibly faulty part) is unacceptable, then Open Box is not for you.

Ah. I thought it was a serial number like I usually get for PSUs and cases that are all the same for a specific model. I don't want someone to give up their unique # if what you say is true.

I hear you Zap. I've bought Open Box stuff before, including my current P5Q Pro and I know there's a reason for the discount. From what I have seen, chances of getting the I/O shield are very slim. I just wanted to hedge my bet in the attempt to finish my buddy's rig this weekend.

you can build it without an io shield and it will work fine, then put it in later...

You can also PURCHASE the IO shield from Asus directly. I did that with an open box M2N-SLI Deluxe I used to have.

I wouldn't mind doing that if Asus weren't nice enough to just send it out for free. I called them about my P5Q Pro that was an Open Box item from the Egg and they had an I/O shield in the mail the next day free of charge.

check the box, my gigabyte mobo had the serial number on the box!

i even took apart my pc before seeing this.
