thanks for looking.

I have a system here with the following

ASUS M2NBP-VM CSM motherboard.
Antec power supply.
2gigs of ram.
2 x SATA hard drives
1 x PATA hard drive
1 x PATA DVD-RW

When i press the power button on the front of the system the system turns on for a second then shuts down again. Do this a couple times and it finally stays on. all the fans spin up and the hard drives do as well. Problem is i get no video output with either the onboard or when i tried a PCI-E card.

I unplugged everything from the motherboard except ram and same thing. Tried a different power supply from a known working system and the same problem happens.

Is the motherboard shot or am i missing something?

Thanks for any insights.

Not necessarily. I would try just one stick of memory; and reseat it, in case it's not all the way in. I always listen for 2 clicks when the memory seats properly in the slot. You should disconnect all accessories, such as hardrives and floppies. Use just the cpu/heatsink, video, and one memory stick. I also do bare posts outside of the case on a cardboard surface, and use the screwdriver trick on the power switch leads.

If checking the memory sticks one at a time doesn't work I would check my wireing and make sure you don't have the pos and neg reversed somewhere on the header. it sounds like the fail-safe is kicking in. If it shuts off it's probably supposed to.
