Need screws for a Delta 60x25mm fan!!

Hi, I have an Athlon XP 2100+ with the RETAIL fan and heatsink. My fan's dying, the RPMs are changing all the time and the temperatures are fluctuating like crazy, so I bought a new Delta fan that does 37 cfm that's 60x60x25mm. My current fan (the stock AMD one) is only 10mm thick. So this one is 15mm thicker. Problem is it did not come with screws. Where can I find some? Remember, I'm keeping my stock AMD heatsink, so the screws need to be the same thickness as the ones I'm using now, only a little over 25mm long (a little over an inch) so that they can screw into my heatsink. I tried Lowe's and Home Depot, but the only screws they have with the same thread size are sheet metal screws which don't work.

So where should I look? If anyone has some PLEASE PM me as I'm getting my new fan tomorrow and need the screws ASAP. Thanks.

Fans are supposed to come with screws. If yours doesn't, it looks like you're gonna have to order a second 60mmx25mm fan, and use the screws from it. I haven't heard of anywhere that sells just fan screws, because I like said, fans are supposed to come with screws.

That's because I bought it off a guy online for $2.50 shipped, lol. I couldn't pass up that deal.

Could I just use the 10mm screws I have now and screw them in from the bottom of the fan instead of the top?

Sure, if you have the right tools. It will require either one of those bent phillips head screw drivers, like they sell for $1.99 at AutoZone (the ones shaped like a Z, with phillips head on one end and slotted on the other end), or just a thin slotted head screwdriver roughly the width of the phillips head's slot, and long enough to reach it. I would try the slotted first though, because I'm pretty sure that the Z-shaped screwdriver is too deep. I have one, but I don't have any way to measure it in mm's! BTW, wouldn't the guy you bought it from no longer need the screws for it, since he no longer has the fan?

He wasn't using the fan, he said he couldn't find the screws, his initial intention was to give them to me.

I can't screw it in from the bottom, because the hole is just big enough to let the screw go through. If I drop it down inside, it stops at the head, which sticks out the top. No can do.

You know, I could do it, but if you can't, go pay a computer repair shop $2-3 for some fan screws and be done with it. You seem to be giving yourself an ulcer over something not even worth worrying about. And take it from me, ulcers suck!

I know, I've had one in my gums for the past week or so!

Well, see, first it was hard because my fan did not come with them. Then it was hard because I couldn't find the right ones. Lowe's only had a few screws with the right diameter and length, and all of those ones had threads that were too close together. I also can't use the bottom set of holes because my fan has a shaft between the two sets. So I had to find the exact right screws which proved difficult. I think someone is sending me ones now that might work, but we'll see.

Hah, now you know why you got it for $2.50, huh? Hey, I wish the mistakes I've made only cost me $2.50. Man, I wish they had only cost me $250! And if you think having an ulcer in your mouth is bad, you should try having one in your esophagus like I had.

Well, if I knew they weren't going to come with screws, I would've avoided the hassle and just bought it online. But at the time he said he would send me the fan, screws, AND a grill, for $2.50! I couldn't pass that up! Then, the day he shipped it, he told me he couldn't find the screws. Still, though, the guy who's sending me screws now charged me nothing, the fan was only $2.50 shipped (would've been more after shipping from a retail store), and I only waste $1.81 on screws at Lowe's. So as long as I don't have to spend anymore, still not a bad deal.

Go to Walmart and buy all sorts of wood screws or the ones that are as long as you need. I have full cabinet of these and I can always find something that works. ---> Walmart.

I guess I will if the screws I'm getting Thursday don't work. I think the only reason the sheet metal screws with the pointed bottoms didn't work is because the pointy part sort of skipped past the first few threads in the hole. Then, by the time I started screwing it in, it was already near the bottom of the hole in the heatsink. I don't think the holes are very deep, maybe 5mm or so.

You could always use small bolts instead.

And just use the bottom set of holes? I can't use them, they're connected to the top ones, unless you mean something else.

couldn't you just ghetto rig it somehow by tying it down? just a thought.

If the screws I'm getting today or tomorrow don't work I'll have to do that. I have a ton of zip ties, I'm just not sure what I'd tie it to. There's nothing really on the heatsink I could attach it to.

Well I could shoot myself.

My screws came today (a day earlier than expected), and they fit like a dream. Perfect. I then notice that the black power wire on my fan is broken off. I tried and tried to reconnect it, stuck it back inside, electrical tape, everything. NOTHING. So after waiting THREE f*cking days to get the fan, and another two to get screws, I still have to find another 60mm fan, which I HAVE to buy online because no stores sell it for some unknown reason.

God am I mad...

Sorry about that, I was just very angered. I've cooled down a bit now, and I ordered another lower cfm, but also lower dBA fan from SVC. And now I have to wait for IT to arrive. So, the first fan and screws I got were completely useless.

Hey, the fan arrived today! I wasn't expecting it until next week! SVC rocks!

Anyway, I'm idling at 45C. Awesome. Also, it didn't come with screws, surprisingly, so it's a good thing I kept the ones that that guy sent me to use with my fan that broke.
