You can just take them yourself before actually going to ok to do the fdisk or format. Even if one wanted to do that, they couldn't take a screenshot since the screenshot would get erased.

cxim's method should do what you want. Use the [Alt]+[Print Screen] buttons to save just the active window to the clipboard.

If you have an application that can save to the GIF format, use that. This shot is only 15KB because GIF compression really lends itself to pictures with large areas of the same color.

Get two computers, one with a video capture card, and an adapter for converting VGA signal to TV signal. Plug the adapter into the video output of the one you're going to format, then the output from the adapter into the input port of the capture card.

Run the TV/VCR software for the capture card (put it on whatever channel the converter outputs to), then boot the computer to be wiped. You should be getting the output from that computer into the video window on the other computer. (You can even make it full screen so it looks like a directly connected monitor!)

That may be a bit clunky and overkill, but with that setup, you could actually make a VIDEO of FDISKing, formatting, and installing an OS! (You'd have to stop before it tried to detect the monitor, since you wouldn't have one directly connected.)

If you have a 2nd HD or partition in your system, you can do an actual format & take shots.

For a nominal fee, I will dig one out & make a couple.

FEE ??? oh well, something like a firstborn daughter child or a 65 Mustang convertible with a new top, nothing elaborate...

Yes,.... you can move all data from a partition & reformat it without effect on the other partitions. Then move the data back.

This is pretty safe, as long as you are careful & don't reformat the wrong partition !!!

You cannot do this with Fdisk without grave risk !!!!

I think my idea would be pretty damn nice for a prank...not worth the money though for me to get the VGA converter needed for it. Although...I do have a G400 dualhead...I wonder if the initial output on boot can be made done on the adapter to TV output...or if it only works on the second port...

Why don't you just format a floppy in an MS-DOS prompt window?

It looks just like formatting a hard drive except fot the drive letter

-_- Seriously guys... don't think so hard :D
