Need rule against 'fixing' quotes

This is most applicable in P&N, although it could cause problems elsewhere.

Here is an example of a thread where a user has quoted a previous post but has changed the content of the quote. This is deplorable and dishonorable and should not be allowed.

I realize it begins with a shortcoming of FuseTalk, and those who engage in the practice should know that it damages their credibility, but it has been going on for quite a while and shows no signs of abating. Please make a rule against it.

As long as people say "fixed" or "fixed it for you" after the quote i don't really see the problem.

If you don't have the attention span to see the changes and understand what "fixed" means you should probably get some sleep. 😉

Dude, you're in P&N. You should be prepared to deal with the scum of the earth. 😛

lol, well said, I have the P&N forums dissabled in my profile, because it's soooo full of drivel.

Wow, saw the orig post & thought I was destined for a ban...

Anyway, I prominently admitted what I'd done & italicized my edit, and Moonbeam, the original poster actually approved of my edit.

Politics is a dirty business.

daveshel has obviously never seen the poll I created & edited it into a NAMBLA support thread in OT😉

Fixed...in keeping with the tone of this thread, of course. 🙂

Fixed it for you...

See just how much humor it generates in P&N. It is an incendiary device that people use to attack each other when they get too pissed to make rational arguments. It facilitates snipe posts and does nothing to further discussion and analysis. It is misattribution and in the 'real world' can get people in a lot of trouble. We have a fantastic medium with which to communicate and share, and maybe even learn and grow, but this troll tool sleazes us.

Ah, P & N.

Every time I stop by I see the same "shouting at each other wthout listening" Jon Stewart decried in his Crossfire appearence. Little or no debate, mostly just canned talking points plus ad hominem and straw man attacks.

It's hard to see how misquoting each other could debase conversation there any further, but I'll accept that people have succeeded.

daveshel, it was a joke, it was well marked, I wasn't trying to get away with anything, Moonbeam & I are friends from way back & it didn't bother him, and he posted that it didn't bother him.

Do I need to bold type This is a joke, be prepared for a joke, it is only a joke?

You're exemplifying exactly what's wrong with P&N.

Folks wander in from OT or GH see thread topics in all caps that are copied Drudge Report headlines or talking points for the RNC or DNC forums and the ensuing squabbles.

I'm really sorry my well marked & approved joke edit offended you. I'd slit my wrists for you, but that seems a bit extreme...

The last sentence was a joke
