Need Round Cables

I'm looking for round IDE cables.

The only ones I've found with decent EMI/RFI shielding and don't cost a fortune are by CoolerMaster.

Most on SVC claim that they offer better EMI shielding over flat cables because they're twisted pairs are twisted by machine to a narrower diameter than flat cables.
That's a crock. Rounding the cable increases the possibiliy of interference and crosstalk.
You at least need a foil wrap shield over each wire.

What is good AND cheap in your opinion?

Thanks

I rounded my own ide cables by seperating every 2 wires....never had a problem with emi/rfi...I mean, why would hd manuf. include a regular flat ide cable if it wasn't good enough? just my .02 🙂

yeah nothing wrong with the rounded ide cables, although if you pick some up try getting the braided silver ones, they offer a bit more shielding then the other ones.

I've been happy with my rounded cable for the optical drive. I think mines is Vantec, but I hope you have room. The push/pull covers get in the way a lot, had to cut them off🙁. Also, try to get cables with the 80wires laminated at the connectors(handles stress better I hear, and neater).

I have a question slightly related to this. Are you likely to experience signal interference if you fold a flat ide cable on itself several times?

any experience with Thermaltake cables? having trouble finding many different round cables for IDE/ floppy, Thermaltake seems easy to get over here, so wonderinf if they are decent. Also, what would I be looking for if there WAS crosstalk etc going on in the cables?

I have used both Coolermaster and Vantec round cables and never had a problem. Also, they look really cool as well.

I have a generic 24" dual device copper rounded from FrozenCPU hooking up my opty drives. I thought its build quality was pretty decent for a no-name. It's performing just fine.

Thanks to everyone for your advice.

VballCoach,
Flats supplied by manufacturers are good. the wires abbut one on either side.
My consern is in rounding a flat, you now have numerous wires in closer proximity to eachother.

From everyone's input, it seems to not be a problem.

Thanks all

The whole issue of shielding really goes to the environment your PC runs in. I used to live by Dobbins Air Force Base where they bravely kept Austell and Smyrna Georgia safe from the Chines and Russian hordes! Every now and then, they'd hit the button for the radar jamming gear and ecerything in the house electronic, whether turned on or off would go crazy EXCEPT for my gaming PC because I took extra steps to shield it from our heros.

It also made it oddly enough so I could overclock a tad bit more.

Do you overclock or have problems with RF now?

My assumpiton that twisting had no benefit was flawed.

It does assist with shielding as it does in CAT5 cable.

Individually wrapping wires with foil isn't necessary.

I'm looking at ...
Directron.com
Geeks.com
SVC.com

If anyone has a better supplier with better selection, prices or sihipping, please let me know.

Thanks again

I heard SVC is a really good and cheap one. At least I think that's the name, check over at Sharkyextreme, one of them seems to be really popular over there.
