Search Hobbicolors on eBay, they are well known and tested for Canon printers. I recommend getting the newer UW8 ink though so order the 4200/4300 kit instead of the 4000 kit.

For a Canon printer, the consensus favorite inks on forums like steves digicams and the nifty stuff forums
are MIS, formulalabs, and hobbicolors.

And I do not recommend you get the kit for the ip4200/4300 because one of the nice features of the hobbicolors kit for the ip4000 is that included in the kit will be five virgin cartridges with a factory made screw seal. You may even want to get an extra set.----since the ip4200/4300 cartridges are chipped these virgin cartridges are not an option for those printers.

In terms of the UW8 inks, you may well be able to specify them to be substituted for the other inks.
Hobbicolors is very flexible about customizing orders.---as a happy hobbicolors customer---I can tell you that as a fact---their communication is excellent.---and they are flexible.

But two items it helps to know going in---it helps to have or know someone who has a paypal account.
And shipping is very possible if you live in the USA or Canada---otherwise check first.

I don't recommend using any other cartridge but the Canon made ones. They are properly designed to work with Canon printers and the generic ones can cause major problems.

So agian buy the UW8 ink and refill your Canon made cartridges. You will save yourself a lot of headaches.

I have not had any problem with clone ink tanks on my Canons. But I don't go for the lowest price either. Hobbicolor has been in the biz long enough that if their new tanks caused any problems, they wouldn't be selling them. As far as the ink itself goes, I agree with the others.

To a certain extent 13gigatons is correct in stating that depleted Canon OEM cartridges make fine refill blanks. To my knowledge Canon is the only company to use two different sponges made of different materials in their cartridges. And there is a certain residue that will build up in a cartridge after it is filled many times---and a kind of a natural limit of how many times any one cartridge can be refilled before it develops restrictions that inhibit the flow of ink. But there are also back flushing method loosely called the granddad method on the nifty stuff forums that will remove these residues and keep a cartridge usable for long past a mere 5-7 times.---and what Zepper may be referring to as a clone cartridge may be a single use cartridge to be used once and thrown away.

But I have had no problems with hobbicolors cartridges refilled many times---and also reuse my depleted Canon OEM cartridges also. I see no different results with either in my wife's ip4000. And with the depleted Canon cartridges---I had to do the engineering to create and then seal an ink inlet hole. And as Zepper points out, numerous people get fine results with hobbicolors blanks over many refills---and you can order a new one for really cheap---something like a $1.69 for a BCI-6.

I wasn't suggesting not to refill your Canon empties - since they charge so danged much for them they can afford to make them better. The question is: Do they.?.

To Zepper,

Who basically asks could Canon--or for that matter any printer maker afford to make their depleted cartridges better so they would be better for refilling given the profit margins?

Short answer yes they could---and easily and cheaply at that.

Real world answer----hell no and why should we cut our own throat.

And why have nearly all printer manufacturers gone to chipping schemes? While they may say its
to improve the printers.

In reality its to make refilling more difficult.
