Hi all,

Can anyone recommend me a list of a reputable dedicated hosting service?

Thanks.

Depends what you want to use it for. Are you just doing webhosting, etc? IRC services?

+-200. Less than 100 is prefered.

I can manage a unix/linux machine reasonably well.

In that case I'll second the recommendation for layeredtech.

I will third it. I've done a lot of research on the issue and LT seems to be the best of the larger companies.

Third.

LT is awesome assuming you have a capable server admin.

Also if you end up going with layeredtech and would want something managed I have seen lots of recommendations about Servstra. (http://www.servstra.com/)

They claim to be a managed dedicated host who resell for layeredtech (so you get the same "quality" of hosting but a different company managing it). I plan on moving all my servers over to them but have not done so yet (have been reading alot over at Webhosting Talk though).

You do have to add some sort of a control panel though to get the "free managed services" but they also include 10 gigs of offsite backup with each plan (which is a nice feature most other companies dont include)

ThePlanet is ok although I personally won't recommend them because of customer service issues. Would you be able to come up with enough funds to build a server (approx $1000 +/-) fit for your needs? Reason I ask is because it'll cost you less on a monthly basis to colocate a server than it would to pay for a server rental on a monthly basis.
