So heres the deal, cliffed up.

Sister was in a wreck, now is paralyzed from neck down. We're looking for some voice activated home automation stuff in terms of opening doors and things like that.

Does anyone have any experience in this stuff? The solution my dad looked at was going to run $11,000. Thats a hell of an expense. I told home voice activiation to perform household functions falls into home automation and not computer stuff (As opposed to voice activation for PC's) and as such would probably be quite a bit more expensive. But 11 grand seems a bit steep.

Any recommendations?

To be honest, I think $11k is fairly reasonable depending on how automated everything is.

EDIT: Wouldn't this be tax deductible, also?

I dont think we're going to find much under 11k if its very thorough.
I believe it may be tax deductable.

The owner of my company is really big into home automatic. He has a lot of stuff from http://www.automatedliving.com/default.htm and we have some of the stuff here at work. 11g's is what a decent system will cost you, if you want basic stuff because you don't want to spend that much take a look at some of the X10 stuff.
