Need Recommendations For Sturdy Notebook...

Just got back from meeting with school about my 10 year old, one of their recommendations was to allow her to use a notebook, she has moderate ADD & moderate dyslexia, they feel that a notebook with a spell/grammar checker would help her immensely.

I'm only familiar with the Panasonic Toughbooks, is there anything else on the market that might fit her needs?

She doesn't need much processing power or storage, just a case/keyboard....

Find her an old IBM ThinkPad 600 series (immediate predecessor of the ThinkPad T series). Should be relatively cheap to find one used, and I've heard the keyboard and case can take one hell of a beating.

I don't know of any competition to the Toughbooks, but some companies specialize in ruggedization (sp?) like Man & Machine. Also, if she can be without it for a few days, some companies offer no fault warranties, like Toshiba's systemguard which covers one breakage a year for three years. Safeware is an independent warranty company that offers break insurance.
