Need Recommendations for PCI NIC card

I am setting up a network with a couple of computers and need some advice on NIC cards. The Network will be wireless remote with the remote computer connected via an Orinoco Gold Client USB. The wireless router is a D-Link. The main computer will have the NIC card attached to the D-link wireless router. We will also be hooking up to Cable internet in the next month or so (I plan on gettng a Toshiba PCX1100U cable modem). I have had recommended to me a 3Com 3C905B or a 3C905C NIC ($35 to $40) but is there a less expensice NIC that is just as good and will serve my needs. Thanks.

D-Link NIC is good as well as cheaper than 3Com. I use some of them myself (model DFE-530TX 10/100Mbps). It was about $25.

Cheap is good if you are doing MS Windows. However, if you are using alternative OS (NetBSD, Linux, OS/2, etc), then you should probably look for some tier 1 cards. For myself, I prefer 3COM. But Intel should also work.

I've had good luck with my Linksys EtherFast 10/100 NIC, and it seems to be faster than Realtek 8139 based cards.

3Com 3C905B/C or Intel PRO/100 NICs - remember, you get what you pay for! Buy a quality NIC if you expect quality service.

?You get for you pay for? but ???

SMC 1211 <== Cheap reliable nic that has built in driver with W2k and up and Most Linux distro

Want the best ?

3Com and Intel card are the best.. but can be 3-4 times as pricey

The NIC with the ADMtek AN983 Centaur chip that Jack linked to would work fine (the Linksys LNE100TX rev 4.1 and NC100 also have that chip), and have driver support for the various OSs out there.
