Need recommendations for newer Athlon motherboards that take SDRAM...

Have a lot of SDRAM laying around and don't want to toss it. I notice most all the new mobos are DDR sloted. Can you recommend some newer motherboards (KT266A or AMD 761) that will take an XP and PC-133 SDRAM? I think the ECS does but are there any others?
I don't mind if the board has slots for both types.

Thanks, Mac

760 = no SDR support in chipset at all. KT266A = no SDR boards I know of. The only newer non KT133A and older SDR boards are Asus A7A266, Asus A7A266-E (relatively fast with Ali Magik 1C), and ECS K7S5A (SiS 735). If you really want an SDR board, wait for SiS 745.

ASUS A7A266-E, based on the new c0 revision of the ALi Magik1 chipset. Performs on par with the KT266A.

AK32l

I managed to find this NEW SHUTTLE AK32L KT266A board with 2 DDR DIMMS and 2 SDRAM dimms...maybe it's the only one.

As far as the ECS board...I see a lot of complaints...what are they based on? I've heard of issues with Palomino core chips and higher speeds...
Is there an easy explanation? New revisions? How fast a chip can this board take?

As for Andy, thanks, I will look into the A7A Asus w/Ali...newest revision. I saw some at the computer show but didn't know enough to take a closer look.

Thanks again....

I saw a Soltek kt133a at newegg today. $65. That't not bad at all, and the kt133a boards were not that far behind the 760 boards.

The Asus A7V133 or A7V133-C(without raid controller) PCB revision 1.05 or later should be a good choice for you because it is a stable board based on the good old KT133A Chipset. It has 3 sdram dimm slots which give you good room for your old sdram sticks. However, you should notice that you get a board which is PCB Revision 1.05(including) or later(it is written between the fourth and the fifth pci slots) and flash its bios at least to the latest official bios(1007) inorder to enable the xp rating system. You can post and boot with an athlon xp even if you don't have the latest bios, as long as your board is revision 1.05 or later.

I'll vouch for the ECS K7S5A

I'm running mine with a no-name (well Deer, does that count as brandname?) 250w psu too.
No stability problems whatsoever. (i dont have to many components in the rig right now though, i'll probably get a bigger psu when i add more)

anyways its been rock stable so far, havent tried OC'ing on it yet though.

The absolute best motherboard that uses PC133 is the Asus A7V133. It's what I have in my system now and since it maxes out performance for PC133 and DDR RAM prices are so high I won't be upgrading my motherboard for a while. It just needs a BIOS update to work with the Athlon XP.
