I'm getting bored with my current collection of music. Hopefully some of you can recommend me some music to try. I like a lot of instrumental music such as Joe Satriani, Dream Theater, yngwie malmsteen. I also like lots of metal bands such as metallica, megadeth, testament, in flames, children of bodom, soilwork, etc. I generally like upbeat and aggressive but melodical sounding music with a lot of detail. My favorite part of most songs is the guitar solo and instrumental pieces. I love the instrumentals of some of the newer metal bands (especially the sweedish bands like bodom and inflames) but i have a difficult time accepting the screaming. I also like techno and other genres of music, but i generally only like melodical and complex stuff. Any recommendations?

EDIT: I absolutely HATE emo/punk/hardcore or whatever you call that stuff.

The Black Mages CD. Metal renditions of various Final Fantasy battle themes. Very melodic, all instrumental, and guitar heavy.

The Resistors! A German band from the 80s-90s. Might be a little too "hardcore/punk" for you, but its heavy and tight and fast, yet not at all sloppy.

Check out Beautiful Creatures, particularly their first album. I recommend the songs New Orleans and Wasted.

Nightwish, Lacuna Coil, Dragonforce, Tool :), Opeth, In Flames, Cradle of Filth, Children of Bodom, Mudvayne, Slipperyknot.

You have a bunch of those on your list already, just throwing them out anyways.

PAIN OF SALVATION!!!!!!!! THEY ARE AMAZING! very melodic and skilled musicians.

very proggish, heavily influenced by Dream Theater........

Tool + Dream Theater = Pain of Salvation

also check out Office of Strategic Influence, who has DT's first keyboardist and Mike Portnoy (DT) on drums.. more like Tool than DT though...

I came from the same boat but kinda grew into more fusion stuff. From that point on, Dream Theater would sound like child's play : ) Check out Guthrie Govan.
