I'm not a gamer by any means and need the advice of the folks in this forum.

Looking to get a Windows gaming laptop for a 14 year old boy for Christmas. I have no idea what games they play. He has an iPad but wants a laptop.

The specs are 11th or 12th generation core i7 or amd equivalent.
16 gigs of ram, ddr5 if possible.
3070 gpu/video card
15 or 17 inch screen
Any size m2 drive
Looking to not spend over $1000.

Before posting here, have looked at many brands and it's just confusing from reading all the reviews and the "experts" on YouTube.

I know $1000 won't buy much, if someone can please make a recommendation, I would appreciate it.

Thanks.

I think you'll have a hard time getting a 3070 for around $1000 unless you can snag a good sale. I was looking for an ASUS ROG Zephyrus G1 for you, as they are rated very well, but seems they are still above your price range, especially if you want both Intel and a 3070. Switching to an AMD CPU does help a little for some deals.

Here's a random decent looking one I found on sale for $1000, but it's a 3060. I'll need to review some BF/Cyber Monday deals to see if there's a better one, but that was a quick hit from Google/Amazon.

I'll come back if I happen to run across some other options, though again it's harder if you're stuck with those specs and budget.

I got this laptop. I was looking to get something with a more modern GPU but the price quickly went well over 1000. The 1650Ti isn't going to run the last games but it is a decent GPU. And the CPU is pretty strong for the price. I actually spent a little more than the current price. Did a quick look on Newegg to get something with a 3070 you are going to need to spend a lot more than 1000.00.

Apparently there is one on sale now for just over $1000, but for today only:

Not familiar with gigabyte laptops but decent power for the price. If you miss the sale it at least gives hope that things still can pop up street Black Friday.

Looks like the person who decided the specs and the person who set the budget were two different people!

In all seriousness, DDR5 and an RTX 3070 gpu are very hard to come by in the ~$1000 price bracket.

You'd better talk to him whether he really needs those specs.

Other than that, 16gb RAM and Core i7/Ryzen 7 CPU. are good choices for a gaming laptop.

I would recommend this variant over that one for the same price (on sale right now). AMD 6800h and a 3050ti instead of vanilla 3050. Should provide a little more performance.
