Need recommendations for a budget rig for my brother

GasX

Lifer
He needs a box that has the raw computing power to handle all sorts of photoshopping and flash development and have plenty of HDD space.

I was thinking something along the lines of:

edit: new rig set-up

Mobo / CPU combo: BIOSTAR KM266 Pro MOBO With AMD Sempron 2200+ CPU -RETAIL $89
2X Corsair Value Select 512MB PC-3200 CAS2.5 - $78.90 = $157.80
Video: GeForce MX4000 dual head $45.99
Chaintech 7.1 Channel PCI Sound Card AV-710 - $26.99
Optorite 8x DVD+/-RW DD0405 Black/Beige - $52
Samsung SATA 160GB 7200RPM 8MB Hard Drive - $92.50
Case: up to him something quiet w/ 300W+ PSU $75

That comes to $539

Thoughts?

Get the Frys combo for that cpu with a motherboard with on-board sound for $75 total and save over $75.

Do I have to fly to CA for this or can I get it at outpost.com?

So unless there's a video card choice to mock, noone is interested in a non-gaming rig? 🙁

😛

He may want to look at using 2 monitors if he's doing serious web development. Not necessary but it sure makes life easier. Does Matrox still make a cheap dual head card?

oohhh - good idea!

looks great...

and yeah go for the Fry's combo, you can save some cash, then you could get a little better video card, like a radeon 9550, then your onboard video wont be stealing all your RAM
