I'm looking for a quiet, reliable, and fast system drive for a HTPC build. I already have a 2TB 5400rpm data drive, so the system drive doesn't need to be big, but big is good too. I almost bought a 1TB Caviar Black but the reviews say it's very noisy. Any suggestions?

The new Seagate Green drives are fast and quiet. Not the previous generation, but the new advanced format drive. I got the 2TB version for $80 and I much prefer it over my WD Greens which sometimes buzz when idling--not good for HTPC.

Trust me, all new drives regardless of RPM are in the same ballpark for speed that it won't matter. You stop caring that task X takes 1 minute on a Green drive and 56 seconds on a 7200rpm drive when an SSD does it in 10 seconds or less.

That Samsung Spinpoint F3 you linked to is very popular. I use it as a data drive paired with my SSD boot drive in my main workstation.

I just use 7200rpm notebook drives in my HTPCs. They're slow but I don't care because my HTPCs are mainly playback devices. I'm more concerned about power consumption and cool operation.
