Need recommendation for Monochrome Laser Printer, AIO preferably.

Looking to get two laser printers this year, one for myself, one for my parents to replace their aging Lexmark Inkjet.
I prefer to get one with scan ability and networked, for them, i don't think it matters.
Low volume but decent quality prints would be nice (printing resume and stuff).

I found a Lexmark E260dn at staples for $130 after rebate and after trade in. is this a good printer and good deal?

i was also looking at the brother MFC-7340, which has no network capability but is an AIO for my parents, about $139.

That MFC-7340 is about $130 at Staples on Black Friday. Office Depot seems to have the same deal. These are new units with no rebates. This printer connects through USB.

For another $100, you can get a similar model that adds ethernet and wireless networking. Seems a lot to pay for that feature though.

If they don't need all that, you can get the Brother HL-2240 laser printer only for $50.

I think i'll be getting the HL-2240 for my parents and I will be getting the MFC-7840W for myself. If they run out of those, i may get the 7340 instead.

I have a $30 off coupon and they also have the $50 trade in credit for bringing in an old printer at staples.

It really depends what you need, IMHO, my Brother 7820N is superior in fax speed to the MFC-7340 although the latter may be slightly superior in printing economy.

But the All in one laser printer market is highly competitive, it always has been, at a $140.00 or so, its hard to go wrong with a MFC-7340.

But as a member of a small 2 person network, I tee totally don't understand why everyone goes ga ga and opens up their wallets wide to buy a net workable capable printer. Truth be told, any ordinary printer can be shared over a network, but if you want them to be equally usable for only a few specialty tasks over the whole network instead of just the given computer they are connected to, costs like $60.00 extra.

But if my wife wants to print to my 7820 N connected to my computer, because its simply shared over the network, she can do so without even getting off her chair.
And I can do the same with the printer connected to her computer.

Maybe in a large many user office setting, a networkable printer may make some sense, but I have never seen any gain worth even 60 cents with a networkable printer with my network. I should add in my wife has an color inkjet I refill very cheaply, and I as stated have a laser. So we can mix and match and choose which printing technology best suits the given printing application.

But gasp, in the case our OP's parents, using a Lexmark inkjet no armed bandit is like taking a vow of poverty.

^ For me, the advantage of the wireless or even wired printer is the ability to not have hte printer physically located in my office. For the one or two times i need this thing it's nice to just put it in the closet and out of sight.

that said, I was able to pick up the HL-2240 at staples for $50 and the MFC-7840W for $229 - $30 coupon = $200. I believe the networking features are worth it down the line and simply allows for locating the printer in physical locations thatwould be different if i needed to have it hooked up to USB somewhere near my desktop.
