Maetryx here,

One of my assignments in my new job as the Assistant Solid Waste Manager at a municipal landfill is to upgrade our portable two-way radios. Currently we are using multiple brands, and some of them are getting dated and hard to find accessories for etc.

We need land mobile radios that meet the following specifications:
- industrial grade i.e. tough
- loud so that people operating heavy equipment can hear them
- easily portable i.e. not too heavy, have a belt clip
- rechargeable, longlasting batteries
- two of them (out of the roughly 15 we will need) must be "intrinsically safe"
- have handheld microphone attachments (like cops dangle over their left shoulders)

Let me know if you have any specific recommendations on brands and models. Thanks.

Hello? There must be someone that uses 2-way radios out there. Public safety. Security guards. Contractors. Discount grocery warehouses. Anyone?

Thanks Stev0. What's a DPS?

The landfill has an FCC license to operate on a private frequency. I doubt that the talkabouts are private, not that I know if that matters or not. But could a person get a dozen of those radios all on the same frequency, or do they just come in matched pairs with many different frequencies?
