My desk just isn't setup so that I can reach the keyboard, mouse, and joystick comfortably simultaneously. Plus the joystick wasn't nearly as pin point accurate as I am with my mouseman. Sure it can do rolls easier but it can't line up for that perfect bomb in the left eye like my dual optical can. :)
Maybe I'll go to my parents and get my old Thrustmaster joystick and try that one day.

I'd like to see a desk, or person for that matter that could reach all three at the same time, and to use them all effectively ;)

I just got the Logitech Wingman Digital Extreme 3D for $29.99 at Target. I never had a joystick before and I was a pretty decent BF1942 pilot with keyboard and mouse. But I thought it might be nicer to fly with a stick. Mostly for the adjustable throttle and not having to keep picking the mouse up when making a long turn. The stick definitely gives me quicker control even though I had my mouse sensitivity turned all the way up, but I haven't gotten used to it. I am having a hard time flying with the stick. It seems like I am oversteering. Hopefully it is just a matter of getting used to it.

The stick has all the features others mentioned (hat-switch, twist-handle for rudder, etc.) But it feels sort of loose and wobbly when it's centered.

I have a desk with a slide out tray that is not much wider than the width of my keyboard and mousepad. But since all the keys I use for BF are on the left of the keyboard, I can rotate the keyboard counter-clockwise about 45 degrees. So the right side of the keyboard is further back. Then I can fit my joystick between my keyboard and mouse even on my slide-out tray. This works fine for me and switching isn't a problem.

I use a MS Sidewinder FF 2 in CFS/CFS2 and BF1942.
It's a problem with the code on the throttle control of the game.
Pretty screwy until you figure it out. I was rolling back off the hill on Wake Island LoL.

So many MS joysticks... I hate em, I couldnt get used to the feel, didnt like how the buttons felt, I like a "click" when I press the button so I know for sure I pressed it, makes things easier. Im in love with my Logitech Strike Force 3D.

Crazy is my name ;) With the sensitivity cranked up on my mouse, I manage to fly the planes pretty well - even barrel rolls and tight places. Granted, a joystick would be far better, but since this is primarily an FPS not a flight sim and that the flight physics are rather, ah, relaxed it works.

Sorry to bring this back from the dead but I thought you guys should know I'm now using a joystick to fly. ;)
I went to my parents house last week and got my old CH F16 Combatstick. It fits nicely beside my keyboard so I can now reach the keyboard and mouse or keyboard and joystick at the same time. Now not only do I strafe any target on the ground... but I also injoy swooping down and hitting the infantry with my wings. :D
I don't think they enjoy it as much as me though. :p

Now I just have to master the timing for bombing in 1st person view... right now I basically fly about 2ft above the target and bomb em... but that hurts me sometimes too.
Maybe one day I'll save up some $$$ and buy this.
