Need recommendation for a Beginners Photography Book...

Just bought a Canon S50 and would like to learn how to use the manual features a little bit more. Eventually I hope to purchase an actual SLR, but will have to learn with the S50 for the time being. Any good book recommendations?

National Geographic has one that covers the basics, you can probably find it on their web site or at Amazon.

Over kill, because today we uses mutigrade paper & have film that handle longer range of exposure. Sure, Ansel Adams was a god in photography, but those days are gone becasue it would be hard press for you to get graded rag paper that is below 2, and it is impossible to try to get contrast graded paper that is above 4.

[edit] PS. Ansel Adams have been known to cheat on his print too. His zonenal system doesn't work every time because the ideal subject contrast range forces some of the highlighted area to fall outside of the printing range on his film, therefor he burn in the details on his working master negative prior to printing.

National Geographic Field Guide definitely.. there's a couple of them but the one to get has "Field Guide" in it.

If you're a real techie I found a good book called From Theory to Practice, fundamentals or something along those lines. That describes all the math to it
