I am planning on buying ram for my computer and had a couple of questoins. My mobo can support PC100 ram.

1. Can i put a higher rated ram in the board and it function as a PC100 and then put it into a computer later?

2. If no, say i buy PC100 ram. Can I put that into a lets say a P4 mobo which has PC whatever ram in it?

If you guys know of any good solutions to this let me no. I currently have a P3 550 with 128 ram and looking for a boost. I figured ram is the best and least expensive method at the moment.

Yes you can put higher RAM in and use it in a system later.
No, you probably won't be able to use it in a P4. P4's currently use Rambus memory. Future P4 chipsets will support DDR memory. PC133 will probably never be supported on a P4.

well, if you're looking for regular sdram, then pc133 from crucial.com is probably the best

if you want ddr ram , then pc2100 ddr from crucial.com is the best (but you need a mobo that supports ddr ram)

P4 uses RDRAM for now! There is a SDRAM chipset coming out and you probaly be able to use PC100. If you're getting SDRAM get PC133, because it is nearly the same price and offers better performance.
