So I've just started playing and need a decent, inexpensive racket. One of the local sporting goods stores has a decent looking titanium one by Head (sorry can't remember model) for $30. Any tips on brand or choosing one in general?

I don't really know a lot about brands but I'd say try to get one that looks tight and is as big as possible.

i dunno, bigger isn't always better... just depends on how you play. I wouldn't fret too much about anything under $50.. just get whatever feels comfortable to you. Work on running your ass around the court instead :) If you get a good team of doubles playing.. it gets crazy :)

ektelon (sp?) is a respected brand. i picked up a cheap one (tho they do have very expensive ones too) from thesportsauthority and it has lasted pretty good for me. if you are just a beginner i doubt you would notice the differences btw cheap and expensive racquets.

edit: this was the brand recommended to me by my racquetball teacher in college (i took it for a semester)

If you're a n00b/intermediate, pretty much anything under $40 will do for you. Head and Ektelon are both the big names for raquetball racquets. Wilson also makes some but they're more known in the lower end/medium tennis racket community. I own a Wilson but I haven't played raquetball in about a year more or less :(
