it has a black label fan
Fan dimensions: 60 x 60 x 25 mm
Connector type: 3-pin w/RPM signal and 4-pin power with pass through connector
Fan speed: 7000 RPM
Fan airflow: 37.61 CFM
Noise level: 46.5 dB (A-weighted)

it works great the hotest temp i've seen is 103 F, but it's too loud.
can anyone reccomend a new fan or whole new heatsink that is quiet but still cools well?
Epox 8KHA+ with AMD1600XP.

get the alpha Pal 8045, and buy the 80mm fan of your choice. 80mm's are generally much quieter than any 60mm with the same rated CFM and dBA. Less rpms means no high-pitched whine. Its on sale again at SVC for $29 bucks, so if you want the best without the noise, its the only option :) Fits with no probs on the 8KHA+, and I actually was using a Golden Gate prior to this HSF as well.

What about those 80mm to 60mm adapter "funnels" I've seen them befroe but can't remember where. Do those work any good?

You can try just putting a slower fan on, and accept the higher temps. Try the YS fan blowing at 27 cfm, it is much quieter, and it might be adequate for your cooling needs.

I too agreed tht u should consider the 27-33 CFM ys-tech fan on the SK-6 HS. Cooling seems decent. Cooling an XP1600+ is no probs.

Those adapters are more trouble then they're worth. It'll probably cost just as much for an adapter (they are around $30 bucks), the same price as the 8045 which is a true 80mm HSF, and there's a lot of debate about whether the funnels are effective or not. The Golden Gate is a nice HSF, but its not worth paying all that when you can get an 8045 for the same price, which will give you even better performance. You can use this extra headroom to get an even quieter fan.

Yes, it is...but once you've gone to an 80mm HSF, there's no going back. I really liked my golden gate as well, but figured with my rig upgrade, might as well try the 8045....a lot less noise, and more cooling!
