I have a Volcano5 on my T-Bird 1.2GHz and it's noisy as hell. 🙁

I also have no case fans. Can ya'll reccomend me 4 good case fans and a good hs/f for my bird. Oh yah, I'd like to keep the system as quiet as possible with the good cooling. Thanks!

Please link to where I can get the fans also. 🙂

.What I had (nothing OC'd):

1. Stock Athlon XP HSF (noisy, 46-48C IDLE)
2. Fong Kai FK-320B w/ 2 92mm case fans
3. FK-320B Stock 300W PSU

Replaced with:

1. Alpha PAL 8045 w/PCP&C Silencer 80mm (40C IDLE)
2. 2 Panaflo 92mm fans.
3. Enermax EG-365VE-FC (350W) Whisper PSU

My experience has been that you cannot completely eliminate sound, but you can make it so that it is tolerable. I have yet to try Dynamat, etc. The real difference in noise came from installing the Alpha HSF and the Enermax PSU. You can pick up Panaflos at Directron and Plycon, among other places. I picked up the everything from Directron. There are plenty of other places out there that sell this stuff, find the one that's best for you.

Papst fans are supposed to be great as well, but they're harder to come by.

I have the SX830, and replaced all the fans with 4 x 80mm Panaflo L1A's. It's pretty quiet now, I can sleep with it on 🙂

Same here i replaced all 5 fan slots-(4 case, 1 HD bay) with Panaflow L1A fans.

Your main problem is probably that volcano though. I just built a system and stuck one of those in and it was LOUD!

Gonna go with 4 Sanyo-Denki 80mm case fans and a Alpha 6035 for my cpu. Will this cool better/not as loud?

Depends on what model of sanyo-denki case fans and what fan on the alpha. The sanyo-denki pico ace 60mm is about as quiet as effective 60mm fans can get, many 6035's come with it. Sunons of about 24-26 cfm are also used a lot. Not as quiet as the sanyo-denki, not loud either.

The need for front case fans is often overstated, particularly with something as free-flowing as a sx1030. Good results have been reported with only two low noise fans used as rear exhausts.

You have to compromise somewhere if you want a quiet machine. Either by letting temps come up a little, still cooler than many oem boxes, or by spending $$$ for the right board that will accept one of the really big sinks with 80mm quiet fan and then more for a quiet psu... Once the fan noise is low enough, the HDD gets annoying, you'll want a new quiet barracuda IV....

Amen to Whisper P/S, Panaflow case fans, baracuda IV.

IF you have determined that your CPU fan is still the noisiest component after all the above, you can try one more trick: Use an 80mm fan on the CPU as suggested, with a really good all Copper heatsink and arctic silver (the thermal compound can make 3-4 deg C difference). Test your temps, then try 7volt the 80mm fan. Yes I know, 2 steps forward one step back. But less airflow can be offset by good conductivity on the heatsink, and it's quieter.

Other ideas: Put a Panaflow L1A on the CPU. Or one of the new Enermax "pink" 80mm case fans with the manual variable-rpm settings, and tweak till you get the right temperature/performance/noise combo. Noise is approx proportional to RPM (and fan blade design).

Good luck, a quiet AMD system is a challenge.
