Hi there,

Ok I was having registry troubles and someone suggested I reinstall windows 2k. Its been 15 months since I had my new system and I guess its time for a reinstall. Never done this before and I am nervous as hell!!

I have backed up my hard drive already. I saved my backed up files to my c:/ drive so now I have even less space. But I am assuming that after my reinstall I can delete my back up files right? so I can have more space...

So all I have to do is boot up my windows 2k cd and reinstall now?

when I am asked for options during the reinstall should I stay away from certain options?

in the delete partition part and rebuild is there other choices? other options?

I never done this before and I am a little nervous:(

any suggestions would be appreciated

thanks

If you're going to do a reinstall, it's better to just to format and install the OS over. That way, you get rid of the problems that you were having from the last installation. That being said, you should move your backed up files to CD or a separate drive. Next, just pop in the CD, and choose format (as NTFS or FAT32, based on your needs). Hope this helps :)

LOL. So you've really haven't done this before? :p When you put in the disk, you should get a blue screen asking you what you want to do. There will be an option to upgrade or to format. Choose format. It will then ask you if you want to convert to NTFS or leave it as FAT32. Windows 2000 runs better under NTFS (NT file system) but it can still run under FAT32. Some older programs and games don't run on NTFS, which was why I say based on your needs.

I don't know the exact details, but check out these two links...they'll explain it better than I can.

NTFS vs FAT32
NTFS vs FAT32 explained in detail!

Hope this helps!
