I am planning to order the motherboard for my new PC today, and I need some quick advice. I had looked at both the Abit IS7 and Abit AI7. Though the AI7 has a lot of nice features, they didn't seem all that useful to me since I do not plan to do any overclocking (though I do plan to use their GAT settings). In addition, I was worried that the unusual orientation of the CPU socket might cause problems with the thin base of the SLK-947U HS I was going to use:
SLK-947U
But last night it occured to me that the AI7 also had changes to support the early Prescott CPUs, and that this might provide a convenient upgrade path for me next year if I wanted to do so.
So I have two questions:
Would the unusual socket orientation on the AI7 cause problems with the thin base of the SLK-947U I am going to use?
Is the ability of the AI7 to support the early Prescott CPU's worth the extra cost?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
