It will work fine, however it's pointless to pay for a MP when an XP will perform identically.

Remember:

MP's are XP's with AMD's official stamp of approval for SMP operation.

There is no difference other than that.

i am thinking that I will get a dual capable mobo and another cpu when the price droped...since i have saved enough money for 1 cpu now....
basically i am thinking better upgrade....so maybe 1 year later when a 3gig cpu comes out...
i can just pay less money and buy another cpu and dual capable mobo to make a dual processor system..

so does it mean that you are able to use some xp as a dual processor...jus wondering: )

Couple things you need to worry about here:

1) You can't mix & match speeds (it may be possible, but it's certainly not advisable)
2) Matching steppings is advisable, if you buy a CPU now & can't match the stepping later you may end up buying another CPU anyway
3) In a year a 1900+ won't be worth talking about, don't limit yourself trying to match it later

Yes, XP's work fine in SMP mode. They just don't have the SMP circuitry tested, so if it doesn't work you don't have AMD's support. But then again if you're like most people here you probably don't give a damn.

The MP will work fine.

Remember, some people don't mind paying a premium for the MPs -- they're not locked like the XPs. Some would pay the extra just to avoid messing around unlocking it. Not me, mind you, but many would (and do).
