okay so here is the problem. it's my first year at college........and i am getting BAD GRADES. i got pretty good grades through high school, but now i am getting BAD BAD grades. and, well, people might argue that college is a lot harder than high school, but it's not. it is pretty easy over all. i figure that if i can spend 2-3 hours doing either studying or homework per night, then i would be on top of my game and be getting good grades. the problem is that i can't. i can't manange to open my books. i would rather look at the wall than do work. i am guessing it is something psychological. anyway, my question is, what is wrong, why can't i do work, why am i so lazy? any solutions on how to fix this would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks.

First of all, you ough to get of ATOT. That might be your biggest help.

I would assume you're taking somewhere between 12-14 hours. Now, the rule of thumb is that for every hour of class you have, you would spend 2 hours studying. Of course, this isn't always the case for every class.

College is easier than high school, if you want it to be. That's the problem however. Since you don't have the same class the next day it's easier to put things off.

Studying isn't easy. No one said it was. It's difficult to stay focused, but you sometimes have to bite the bullet and stick to it. That's one of the most important skills that are necessary for studying--persistance. You have to be persistant in your study habits, you need to be persistant in working hard.

Tips? Study during your "prime." (ie if you're not a "morning person," don't study in the morning). If possible, study near the same place everyday. Study for an hour, take a ten minute break. Never study on an empty stomach.

It's all about desire. It's either there or it isn't.

[edit] Sorry, got Mod-raped. I can't get the right face for this...argghh...[/edit]

Do what I did and find a girlfriend that will withold sex if you don't do your work 🙂

I went from a 1.75 one semester, to a 3.55 the next using this method 😀

Yep, I have the same problem. Fortunately it doesn't really seem to be hindering me. 😛

I think the solution is that you have to make your mind realize how important it is that you do well. Cause in fact it is extremely important and was also in your last years of high school. I have to get my act together or I'm screwed. There's this thing called S-score, also known as CRC. The average is 15-35. It goes from 0 to 50. In order to be considered for things like Law, you need at least a 31. I think 20 is a passing. After first semester, my crc, also including (I did very poorly in HS) high school marks, was a 19. Terrible. And I want to get into CS! So therefore I need to actually do WELL in my next semesters, in order to make my time spent wortwhile.

You have to research your schooling institution, see what the plan is so that it's very clear to you. Set an objective and see what it takes to get there. Chances are you will realize that you NEED to do far better than you're doing, and you may get yourself in gear.

Don't forget that for most guys here that would mean telling their right hand to not go below the waist.

Not likely.

err thanks for the quick responses. actually, yeah, i did so bad my first quarter here taht i am on AP. this quarter i'd like to say i am doing better, but i don't want to jinx it. and one thing i have noticed is that for some reason, i care less. i don't know if any of you guys know about that fear factor thing in highschool. it is basically you procrastinate but in the end you do your work cuz you don't want to get a bad grade. now it seems like that fear is gone. i procrastinate, and then in the end i give up and don't even START to do the homework, and i keep racking up the zeros. sigh....
