Need program to encrypt files

Hey guys,
Can you please recommend a decent program to encrypt files. I know that Windows XP will do it, but I want the files to be password protected. Can Win XP do that?

Or, better yet, I need a program to store all my passwords in an encrypted file. I have all my passwords in a password protected Excel spreadsheet, but I don't think that encrypts it - I could be wrong.
 
Try Password Safe (free) to store all of your password. It will even generate password for you (your choice of number of characters, lower/upper cases, special characters). It will encrypt the file and you need your own special password to enter it. As for file encryption, try to use WinZip, WinRAR...etc.
