My phone - Gen 1 Moto X - became a casualty of unlock and I need a phone ASAP. I have TMO GSM. I am in between Moto X gen 2 or Samsung Galaxy S5. I have been mostly happy with my gen 1 except the Lollipop upgrade which screwed up the BT stack. I have no experience with Samsung devices. Pro/cons, suggestions?
Additional phones up to $500 considered.
Thanks!
Speaking from experience, I lost my Droid MAXX and dropped my 2013 Moto X on its screen while inspecting my AC compressor, now I have an LG G2.
I didn't realize how much time and unnecessary motion were saved by those active notifications until they weren't there.
If you are used to the notification and voice recognition of the Motorola's higher end series ( like the X ), don't go to a different brand. You can always skin the Motorola's if that's your thing, but those notification and always on voice recognition features are driven by specialized hardware that isn't on other phones. Everything else will seem lame if you are used to that.
More or less stock Android also rocks. Proprietary skins / UI's suck.
You can also get the Moto X for $299 from Motorola right now. They are obviously clearing them out for the new Motorola Style. I don't like the even larger size of the 2015 Moto Style line though.
Main downside to that phone is the battery, only 2300mah. Reportedly it still lasts longer than the 2013 Moto X.
Also be aware that lots of new phone releases are expected through the first 2 weeks of Sept.
