I don't get it. I didn't create any password before but after updating to SP2 using windows update, XP suddenly ask me to key in a pasword to enter. Same thing happen even in safe mode. Anybody face this problem before? Anyone can help? How come SP2 automatically creates a password?

That's the first time I've heard of that. Never mind, go in through Safe Mode, log in as Administrator (blank password by default), Control Panel -> Users & Passwords, click on your account, Change Password.

I tried. I can't even log in as administrator in safe mode now. XP ask for password too. I am also surprised that I encounter this. I even tried download an utility from internet which could erase XP login password but no use. The problem persists.

I had this very same problem. What you need to do is start up in safe mode using the last known working configuration and then restore your comp back to before you installed the updates. The update you need to avoid ends in like 8535 or something like that.

Thatr worked for me. Haven't had a problem since. Just don't install that update. Good Luck!

Is there an explanation why the update would do this? What that particular update is for?

Seems am not the only person who had this problem. Wonder Microsoft will issue an explaination regarding this 'bug' not.

remember when you first installed XP and it said to put in a PW for admin? Thats the PW its looking for. The people who have probs when xp sp2 is installed are probably using fast switching I bet.
