Hey I am wanting to partion my 13 gig into 2 drives one 5gig and the rest to the second HD(8gig).

Could someone explain how to do this in the exact steps? When I try to do it I get a drive C and a drive D but the drive D doesnt function for some reason.

Please help.
 
1. Create a boot disk (make sure it has fdisk and format on it)
2. Use the boot disk to boot into DOS.
3. Run fdisk and partition according to your specs.
4. Exit fdisk.
5. Format both of your drives.
 
I think you read wrong or I wrote it wrong but I only have one single HD in my PC and it is a 13 gig I am wanting to split it up into 2 HDs a 5gig and a 8gig. I know how to add a partion so my HD is functional but not a second one.
 
In FDISK create a primary partition of 5GB (5,000MB) (it will ask you to use all the drive space and make this partition active. Press N). Afterwards, create an extended partition for the rest of the 8GB (8,000MB). Create a logical drive in the extended partition and use the whole 8GB. When that's all done, select the partition you want to make active.
 
well i'm not sure of the *exact* options in fdisk, but i'll do my best to give u a general walk-thru.

start fdisk
enable large disk support? yes
delete any existing paritions (last option)
create primary dos partition
set primary to 5gb (or what ever u wanted. this will be your c🙂
get yourself back to the main menu (it should automatically send u back there)
create extended dos partition
use ALL available space? Yes
now it'll take you to a screen where u can create logical dos partitions. create one and set it to 8gb (or whatever u wanted). and yur good to go!

hit ctrl alt del with your boot disk in, format c:
install os
from within os, format the other drive

okay.. so you have a c: and a d: in windows.. but you can't use d: right? If that is the case.. just right click on D: and go format..
