At my university you had to sign in at the front and leave picture ID on your desk as you wrote. TAs would go around to each table, look at your ID, and check you off against your original signature. This was to prevent someone else writing the test for you, but also worked to prove you were there.

Your school does not have anything in place like this? If not, you should suggest it.

Well it really depends on the class, my Bio professor makes you sign like a sign in sheet. My chem one verifies that it was really you taking the test, but no system to say that I was there.

Too bad, it's a school-wide policy here. You should run for student president and make this an issue in your campaign.

But like the teacher says, "This has never happened before", I don't think anyone cares but me.

Maybe, but if I was a student at your school and you told me this story, it would scare the crap out of me. It would not take much to get me to sign a petition or write a letter to help your cause after that.

Honestly, telling people at your school, a counselor, the dean, faculty head, may help your cause somewhat. At the very least you may garner some sympathy.

yeah, no problem with that. I'm sure the teacher will be forced to change her policy after this issue blows over...however well it ends, i'll make sure I bring this issue up to someone high up.

What a b1tch.
Just because it did not happen before it doesnt mean it wont happen now.
Tell the prof to take some statistics. (Nothing is ever definite)
Actually thats why in chem lab we do thing 3-4 times because the results arent always the same. That prof isnt very good at chem even if he/she doesnt teach the lab.
Anyway im rambling....like i said WHAT A B1TCH!

Go to the Dean of Students for the college. Seriously.

I already had an informal visit with my dean/counselors, they said If I can't prove that I was there, It is up to my professor to let me retake it or not.

But I will scheduel a more formal sit down, because frankly this is bull ******...but again I can't pove sh!t so I don't know how helpful this is going to be.

Well, as posted above, you are probably SOL for this particular test. Getting the word out should hopefully help protect yourself and others from this sort of thing in the future.

When I was in 'Big Ole U', this happened a couple of times. The students protested and demanded a sign in sheet. So when you turn in your test, they verify your ID and you sign a roster form indicating you were in attendance, and then put the version of the test you took (A, B, or C).

For you that sucks. I would go straight to the Dean's office and lodge a formal complaint. I would talk to someone there and make sure you make a very big deal about this, and let them know the professor is not willing to help you in any way.

That precedure is really ghetto imo.

At my Uni we have seated positions, people come at the end and check ID's and take a register of who was missing.

Good luck.

Yeah, if this had happen in my bio class, I would have been fine since I'd have my signature on a seating chart. But damn, I have bad karma 🙁

TALK TO THE BUILDING ADMINISTRATORS OR MANAGER. TALK TO AV PEOPLE. There is a good chance there was some sort of surveillance for building security or AV for the lecture room.

Ask her to provide the sheets with all the names that were checked off as the tests were turned in. There should be some sort of accountability on the teachers part as accidents do happen.

Does your university have an student advocates office. Try talking to them.

You don't have any friends in the class that can say you showed up with them, even if you didn't sit next to them??

KEEP EMAILING THE DEAN!! VISIT THE DEAN IN PERSON!

I'm not sure what your family's income is, but you might even consider hiring a lawyer if this could potentially ruin your future career...

Did you talk to anyone that day about going to take a test or see you leave or enter the test taking area? If one person heard you say imp taking my test today bring that person in. Also if you had cell phone on most new cell phones have gps tracking built in they could place you at that place at that time. All you have to do is call your phone company and ask.

Try talking to the professor and tell her EVERYTHING you can remember about the test... in detail. Tell her what she (or the TAs) were wearing that day. Give as many details as possible to help her believe that you were there. Then, hope she finds your test.

Well I live off campus, so when I came I didn't talk to anyone I know. I mean the night before we studied for it and everything, study groups etc. But when I got there, I just sat down and waited for the test to be handed to me.

The surveillance cameras are a good idea, I don't know if they have it but I will check on that. Thanks.

And honestly I have no clue how they keep tabs on the test being turned in and what not. I turned my test in, they looked at my ID, accepted it and I left.

But shes already saying that I didn't turn in my test, So if there is accountability it sucks.

Anyways, legal action might not work because its just my word against hers. Unless I find some evidence, but if I had evidence, this whole mess woulda been solved by now.

So legal action really doesn't do anything, i don't think.

no I did not talk to anyone about the test that morning, because I just woke up and went to take my test right off.

Since it was assigned seating, they don't have to remember you. They just have to remember that somebody sat in that seat on that day.

yeah thats what i'm hoping for, but its still a longshot I would think

Nope, she actually gives you back your test so I can't just tell her what was on there.

So you have the test? If everyone has the test I suppose you can't argue having the test proves you were there.

yes she returns the test, but I DONT HAVE it, because apparently I never turned it in. So how was she to give it back?

I did know people in the class, but I didn't talk to them before class since I woke up and headed straight there. After class we didn't talk because people finish at different time and what not. However we did talk about how difficult some of the problems are and what not later on during the day. I'll be sure to tell the dean about that, but I dont know how far it'll go as evidence.

Anyways, if you've been to those kinda testing sessions, its not always you'll see someone you talk to, and half the time you've been studying all night and are too tired to care.

I am sorry to hear that man. I am a TA for a moderately large class (~200 students or so), and whenever we give an exam, students are required to sign in before they receive their paper. When they turn it in, we have to initial next to their signature to verify we received their paper. In this way it is easy to tell if a student skipped the exam or their paper was lost after being turned in.

As other posters said, you should suggest such a system to the professor or even the dean.

Sorry I don't have any more useful advice than that.

yeah thats a really good system, like I said before, if it were my bio class i'll be in the clear. But I guess different teachers follow different policies, i'm sure it will change after this incident though. Shes gonna need something to cover her ass, shes just lucky that it only happened to me 🙁

something ain't clickin' here...

once you take the test and turn it, they give you back the test. Was the test graded when you got it back? If so, you would have a graded test when you walked out.

I don't see how you would get back an ungraded test after you took it and turned it in.😕

I thought he didn't ever get a paper back, hence his comment about no proof about having ever took it.

well let me try to clear it up.

The test consists of open ended questions (solve it yourself) and multiple choice (scantron) questions. You do your work on the paper, and turn in both the test and the scantron before you leave.

LATER when you get your grade, you are able to go pick up your test and keep the actual copy (they make photocopies of it, to make sure you don't change your answers). So I can't just recite the questions back to the teacher, since anyone can easily get a copy of it from anyone who took the test, memorize the questions/answers, and recite it back as well.

Needless to say I DIDNT get one back, so I can't just show it to her and be like Oh you didn't record my grade.

The test is missing completely
