I'm putting together a box for a friend using parts I already have on hand. I know these aren't the latest/greatest, put they're already paid for and will do what we need them to do. This will be used mainly for internet and light gaming, and some mp3 encoding and light video encoding. The memory will be (2) 512mb pc3200 Kingston Value Ram (1 GB total) and the video card is a Radeon 8500 64mb. I'm trying to decide which processor/motherboard will be best for the above uses.

1) Sempron 2500+ Socket A (1.70 GHz, 333MHz FSB, 256 KB L2 Cache) on an ECS KT600-A motherboard.

2) Athlon XP2400+ t-bred (2 GHz, 266 Mhz FSB, 256 KB L2 Cache) on the same ECS motherboard above.

or

3) P4 2.0 Ghz (400 Mhz FSB, 256 KB L2 Cache) on a Soyo P4VTE motherboard.

TIA for your thoughts on which of the above combos I should use.

i would use the Tbred 2400+...the northwoods did not start dominating the AMDs until they hit the C version and AMD went to the bartons....

Not keen on ECSthough...They make crappy sub par components...
