My brother got a x800xl agp for $220 and i was wondering if i should go buy the same card and build an agp comp instead of going the pic-e route?

I'm in a budget of approximately $1000 to build a college computer including: monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc.
I don't have any pieces yet so i'll have to start from scratch.

I enjoy playing games such as: half life 2, Counter Strike Source, Guild Wars, Far Cry, et.
I don't plan on upgrading after i build this computer, which i plan to keep for approximately 3 years or until i have the money to upgrade the components.

Planning to buy from newegg

MSI K8N NEO2 PLATINUM Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce3 Ultra ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail $119.00

CORSAIR ValueSelect 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 400 (PC 3200) Dual Channel Kit System Memory - Retail $80.99

NEC Black 16X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 8X DVD+R DL 16X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2M Cache IDE DVD Burner - OEM $40.99

Some cheap case (haven't decided on it yet) with window side-panel

80 gig hd-$60

From brother- x800xl agp $220

Cheap keyboard and mice-$30.00-50.00

17-19in. lcd monitor- $200+

Approximately $900-1000 depending on what i decide on with lcd, case, harddrive keyboard and mice.

All opinions are welcome. Thanks!

I would personally still go PCI-E. it will onyl cost $30 extra because you can get a X800Xl from Monarch for $250. Then I would get the Epox NF4 Ultra board. If you are into overclocking the DFI would be a better choice, but the Epox is not really a bad overclocker. If you do get the DFI though I would get different RAM. I have heard a lot of compatibility issues with the Corsair VS and the DFI.

As for the case check out the Cooler Master Centurion 5 or Chieftec Dragon.
