How big is your collection? I loved my WD live up until I got into the 4TB range of movies/TV shows. Now its terrible to search with. 400 movies in a folder is annoying especially when you cant remember what each one is about.

All honesty WD is better for playing every media type ever. Roku is better if you're running something like Plex already and want the metadata(again because of the size of your server)

And, Roku really only shines with Plex. It's local (direct connected drive) playback is shoddy and minimal. Unless they changed that recently...

You can get a refurb Roku 2 XS for around $50 or less, and just install the Plex app on the Roku and Plex on a PC.

For direct or network content the WD is going to be better than the Roku. For streaming internet content the Roku will be better.
