I have an Altima coupe 2.5L CVT rental car. It's an extremely boring car to drive although it's really really quiet on the highway. Mixed gas mileage is 25 and highway is 32. I'm guessing the V6 is much worse on gas. Why bother when there are fun RWD cars that are just as efficient? Like a Mustang.

the accord coupe v6 is in every way superior to the altima coupe. much more trunk space, better interior, faster too

We had an 06 Altima for 4 years - it was an OK car - no issues at all. Wife's uncle just bought a used (loaded) 3.5 sedan with half the miles for 2x that price. I'm 99% sure it's an 08, he loves it .

Can you get maintenance records

We have a 2003 3.5 V6 sedan auto. It's sitting at 165k miles and still going strong. Even with the 4 spd auto, I can get around 30MPG highway and average 26MPG in mixed driving. The rental 4 cyclinders don't seem to get much better which is surprising. Hasn't had any major problems besides a crank position sensor which was pretty cheap to fix.

Good cars, not as sporty as the profile of that car might lead you to believe, but the V6 gives it good power but the auto (CVT that year? - edit no) neuters it. The VQ is a good engine - my 3.0 VQ Maxima was solid when the car was totaled at 220K.

The aforementioned Accord coupe is a better car but the Honda tax puts the price at almost double what you're looking at. Not worth it.

My father and neighbor both have '10 (I think) Altima 4 cyl and they're not exciting cars but very competent with solid MPG. Neither has had a single issue with their car.

[edit] forgot the 6 cyl does not have the CVT[/edit]

its too expensive for 8K with over 100K miles, might as well buy a cheaper car for not a bit more.
shop carmax for pricing ideas.

The Nissan 3.5L seems to have a very high rate of timing chain failures.

And don't get a European car not under warranty unless you work on it yourself.

Not true at all.

Now if you stated oil consumption... sure 100% on that. Ive been on many nissan boards with a 3.5L powerplant and i dont see anything close to an alarming rate. For a while i did see more then my fair share of oil consumption, 1qt every 1000 miles or less. Minor issues here and there with the VQ but mostly body/chassis related.

My VQ30 in my maxima has 140k and my VQ35 in my G35x has 80k, both are roughly engine-free issues. Rust on the maxima is catching up. The G has minor electrical stuff. Other then the valve cover and intake manifold gasket its been smooth sailing.

I have a 2008 Altima Sedan with auto and the 2.5 engine.

I bought it with a touch under 85K on it for about that same price.

I like it... Even my son likes it. Not gonna win any races with it but it gets me around town at 25-30 MPG.

I know.. it's not comparing apples to apples, but I thought I'd toss in my $0.02. :)

Check Nissans own TSBs on it and also forums; its a well known issue. I think the years it affected might have been limited, been a while since I followed it.

I'd personally love one. I tried to find a 6MT 3.5 coupe but it's too hard to find.

Most people saying the Accord coupe is better is probably somewhat subjective, I like the styling of the Altima better myself, and they have roughly the same HP numbers. I've driven one and I really liked it, very comfy quiet yet fun car.

Anyhoo, I know the car is sold, just adding my 2 cents as well.
