Need opinion on RAM for new AMD64 PC

Hi, I'm builing a new amd 64 pc with a newcastle 3200+. Here's a link to the PC. I'm getting all the parts from newegg but I have one quick question:

Am I better off getting 1 gig stick of ram from crucial instead of 2 512s? I'm using pc3200 (ddr400). I want to get crucial because they make everything at one location unlike other manufacturers and they also have a lifetime warranty. If it's going to be a benefit, I'll pay the extra 50 bucks or so for 1 stick vs 2. Also, if you have any other comments or suggestions on my build, they would be Very appreciated. (p.s. i'm using a crappy graphics card in the build because I already have a chaintech geforce 4 ti4600 at home)

Some of the a64 boards are picky and are more stable with one stick of ram. Plus there is no dual channel with the a64 on the 754 platform, so no reason not to get just one stick.
 
I think I'm going to stray away from the mushkin; I hear they're not as stable as crucial and saving a few bucks isnt that important to me. Plus i'm not sure if mushkin has a lifetime warranty but crucial and corsair both do.
 
well, i guess to step back for a second, here are my choices now: (crucial pc4000 wasn't on newegg)

a) 2x512mb crucial pc3200 = $176

b) 2x512mb corsair extreme pc3200 = $234

c) 1x1gb crucial pc3200 = $343

d) 1x1gb corsair extreme pc3200 = $345

So the big question is whether double the RAM price is worth 1 stick of either crucial or corsair, or whether 2x512 corsair extreme is worth the extra buck over the 2x512 crucial.

Any opinions here would be greatly appreciated.
 
In my opinion for what it is worth I would use 2 sticks of RAM because if just one little transistor goes bad on the memory you are out of business, if 2 sticks are used you can remove the bad one and still use the machine.

after shipping and tax with the price of the machine going up to $1800 i dont think i'm going to get any ram above the 2x512 crucial; i'm not going to be gaming that much anyway.

well, your just flat out wrong. mushkin is very stable, and offers a lifetime warranty, even if you overlock. plus, it has better timings.
 
I've that same motherboard and cpu and I've found it's extremely picky on type of memory, speed, and slot placement. I've never seen any board so picky about type of memory as this one. I would advise taking look at the recommended memory for that board and only choosing memory from that list.

I'm currently using a gig of Kingmax PC3200 and my board likes it. It's currently $79 for 512mb stick at Newegg and it's on the approved Asus KV8 SE memory list. link
