I am going to step into the world of socket 939 from my system below. My question is will I see a performance increase with this setup especially in sythetic benches *(Aquamark, 3dmarks). Thanks for any info and i will be selling my old cpu mobo and video card to get a return on my new stuff. I may even come out ahead on the video card money wise!!

Future system:
AMD 64 3200+ Winchester
MSI ATI Express 200 Micro-ATX Motherboard (can't remember model #)
ATI X800 XL

I will keep my ram, sound card, psu, hard drive, and other stuff like that. Just updating my processor mobo and video card. So will i see improvements?

Thanks and suggestions are welcome!

Not enough to justify the cost IMO, but if you have money to burn, what the hell.

I would just keep the current system. The winchesters are nice and all, but they aren't that much better than a newcastle.

Why do you care so much about synthetic benchmarks? Your current system will own any current games and programs.

Edit: typo(s)

first off i would only be out about 90 bucks. Judging by ebay..my video card can get atleast 300 and processor aroudn 140 to 150 with motherboard coming in at at least 50 bucks. So thats only 90 some odd dollars, hell thats worth it to me for the 4 extra pipes on the video card.

The X800XL will even out with the X800pro because even though the XL has 16 pipes the pro has a higher clockspeed which keeps the performance equal. IMO just keep what you have it is plenty fast already.

Also, I'm putting 1000 to 1 odds that the XL will actually sell at $300 (I think the MSRP was raised to $350?) for a while. At first, most retailers will be selling it at inflated prices due to limited supply and since it is competing with the 6800gt anyway, they will make more money selling it at gt prices, since everyone will still be willing to pay.

edit: typos

This is total nonsense and if I were you, I would stick with what you have. You have a good system and there is no logical reason to sell those parts just to get parts that are a tiny bit faster...

...i would just keep it where you are now. When the new R500 or NV50's come out, then sell ur stuff and upgrade, but as for now, it's gunna be a pretty much useless upgrade.
