I'll preface this post with that I have a doctors appointment scheduled, but not for another few weeks. I figured in the meantime I'd see what others have to say/what advice people have.

Anyway. Basics: 5'8", male, 28yo. Basic exercises, usually some 30lb hand weight lifts, 60 pushups, 60 situps 5-6 times a week. I do this mostly just for some tone, not really to bulk up or anything. Pretty much nil cardio.

I was recently put on Nuvigil for intrinsic hypersomnia as it has the least amount of side effects of current central nervous system stimulants. That, plus I don't really wanna go on pure amphetamines, which is the only other treatment left as I've already exhausted all lifestyle changes before I even saw a doctor in the first place (hence why I saw a doctor).

Right now, it's causing me to have a reduced appetite, and a reduction in the amount of food I can eat before I feel too full to continue eating. It also reduces my psychological urges to eat (which as a bonus cut out my desire for sweets almost entirely). I eat my largest meal of the day when I first get up, which is actually dinner for most people seeing as how I work 3rd shift. My portion sizes have dropped to about 1/3 or less what I was eating before starting the medication. After "breakfast", the largest amount I can eat at one time is something like a large cup of yogurt, or a normal Cliff bar, something about the size of my fist. Furthermore, my thirst has been reduced by 25-50%, so I'm drinking a lot less fluids.

I also don't get very hungry very often throughout the rest of the day, but have managed to adjust my eating habits so that instead of eating full meals after my largest, I eat much smaller "meals" but more frequently. I can usually fit in a total of 2-4 fist-sized meals throughout the rest of the day.

If I kept up my old meal compositions, there are days where I can't even meet my BMR. I've gone from 134 to 126 lbs in a month. I've managed to further adjust by eating more nutrient and calorie dense foods, which helps. Plus every so often my body says f-it, and I'm able to eat a good bit more, so I haven't dropped below 126 yet. I also try to substitute in things like soy/almond milk instead of water to try to get in additional calories for my drinks.

In the past 24 hours, I've had 2 medium-ish chicken fajitas with onion and and a little ranch (some romane lettuce and cheese on one, nothing on other), a bannana, 10oz Special K strawberry cereal with 4oz soymilk, and a 100 calorie Special K bar. I also tossed in some protein powder in my coffee, though the powder I got doesn't dissolve worth doodly. I also had an additional 8 oz of almond milk and 16 oz of soy milk. This is a "large" day for me. Average days I eat perhaps 300-800 calories less. IE: only one fajita, no cereal and instead just a pack of crackers or a fiber bar, for example.

So what I'm looking for are possible calorie and nutritionally dense foods/meals that can be portioned very small. I'm kinda thinking on looking for stuff that people eat after stomach stapling surgery, since that seems to be the net effect of the meds.

Anyone have any suggestions (besides talking about it with my doctor, which I am :p )? I don't yet seem to be adversely affected besides the weight loss, and so long as I don't continue loosing I should be OK. That's why I want to focus on better foods so I can maintain weight.

If you began a heavy lifting routine it might stimulate your appetite more. Just tossing an idea out.

Some healthy calorie dense foods are nuts and greek yogurt. You might also toss in some prime cuts of beef and cheese.

Considering your height, weight, and medical condition, I'd eat anything I could that sounded halfway decent. I'm usually not a big fan of nuts since most people are in here to get leaner, but for you, nuts are an excellent option as they're ridiculously calorie-dense.

Whole milk, chocolate milk, milk shakes, fatty meats, cheese, pasta, pizza, anything that sounds good. I'd make sure to supplement the usual suspects too since you're not eating much:

multi-vitamin
fish oil
D + Calcium

Thanks for the adivce, all. I have up and down days, but so far it doesn't seem like my body's going to let me starve to death, medication or not :p Seems like I'm already hitting most of the healthier calorie dense foods, and I remembered that Logan bread is awesome for nutrition and calories in a small package. I am probably going to start taking multivitamins to help suppliment potential lack of fruits and veggies. I *know* I'm going to need vitamin D suppliments at minimum since I work 3rd shift and have less than 3 hours of exposure to the sun on a work week. As a side effect, I shouldn't get SAD since the Nuvigil acts as a mild anti-depressant :p
